Penang Heritage Village

Posted in Watercolors with tags , , , , , , , on August 18, 2009 by Francis Jong

Got the source picture from my friend facebook. He went to Penang (Pearl of Orient) on one of his trip to northen peninsular. The picture captured was really very nice. For quite a while the village have been under debate, either to  demolishing or relocate them but nowadays they become a tourist spot. Some revenue for the locals and maintain our heritage. Good job.

So here they are in watercolor version. Hope you enjoy it. Those speed boat (with huge outboard motor mounted) are mainly used for transporting goods and people and some even used for short distance fishing. Should have drawn some boat masters busy with their chores, i think that will be more interesting to see.

The durian season-2

Posted in Watercolors with tags , , , on August 12, 2009 by Francis Jong

Now this the the king of fruits, this type of stalls sprout all over the country during the durian seasons. Some may sell by the fruit weight (in kg) or by the number of it. I still remember last time when i was at Kuching, we used to bought durians by the basket (will illustrate those special basket next time). Those basket are weive by local Sarawakian, i don’t think we see those anymore. Hope you enjoy the painting.

The durian seasons -1

Posted in Watercolors with tags , , , , on July 22, 2009 by Francis Jong

It’s the seasons of king of fruits again. All over town stalls at road sites or shops start selling durians, of course along with the king is the queen, mangosteen and not to forget the hairy fruit rambutans. I did not manage to draw the king or queen but I settle for rambutans instead. Hopefully I have the king drawn after this weekend.

There are two varieties of rambutans (actually they taste almost similar to lychee), the yellow type or the all common red type. Hope you like the drawing, we just bought them from road sites and still fresh with the red plastic bag.

Under the Trees Canopy

Posted in Watercolors with tags , , , , , on July 9, 2009 by Francis Jong

Done this painting based on my friend photograph taken from Kota Damansara Community Forest. It’s taken from an angle under the tree canopy. Look how tall the trees are, must have grown in this part of the areas since decades ago.  Hope you enjoy this painting. Thanks Michael.

Kota Damansara Community Forest

Last weekend’s done some painting about forest scenery. I refer to a photograph taken by my friend whom also a professional photographer, Michael Low. This one is captured during one of his trip of photo hunting. The scenery is taken while he was on a small boat on a manmade lake at Kota Damansara Community Forest. What really amaze me is at this age there is still some real forest just outskirt of Kuala Lumpur. I was captivated by the scene of canoes basking under the late afternoon sun. I bet it’s a wonderful experience for him.

Asakusa

I think this would be one of the most famous temple visited by tourist who went to Tokyo. This would be one of the must stop by location. I like the huge lantern hanging at the front entrance, bright red and eye catchy.  Very hard to captured picture of just you and the lantern cause too many other tourist trying to get their picture taken too. Well maybe someone should set up a booth on just doing hand drawn drawing for anyone whom wanted to have their picture drawn together with the lantern. Might even earn big buck, who knows.

At both sides of the road, leading to the temple, lots of small souvenirs and food stalls selling all kind of roasted buns and mochi.  Hope you like the sketch, they are done in color pencil.

Eating Ais cream

Posted in Colored Pencil, Sketches with tags , , , , , on June 16, 2009 by Francis Jong

This is a sketch I done on myself. Enjoying ais cream, at the oldest ais cream parlor in Kuching. The Sunny Hill. Famous for its home made bun and of course top up with vanilla ais cream or just plain vanilla ais cream with salted mashed peanuts. Only two words, simple irresistible.

The painting is captured the same time as the previous painting where my friend with the baseball cap enjoying his ais cream.

With the God Parents

Posted in Watercolors with tags , , , , on June 16, 2009 by Francis Jong

This picture was captured a month after my baby boy got baptized at church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. So we invited the God parents for a lunch gathering at a Korean restaurant. This is one of the picture where my boy really smile looking at the camera, well the rest  he either frown or just act miserable, I think that’s how babies is.

Thought of putting the picture into paintings for quite some time now but always have many more other drawings to do. But last Sunday really take full 3 hours to finished this. Hope you enjoy the painting.

It’s been a while again for me to upload some pictures. Been quite busy with work. Busy is good especially in this time of challenging ecomomy. I hope everyone is doing well in their own way. I believe good time will soon come, we just have to wait. Best advice given by a friend of mine is to brush up some of our skills and be ready for any opportunity which might knocks on your door.

Here are some of the sketches i done for my friends..more to come.
